John Harland FRCSA (Life) Director/Owner has more than 23 years in the Recruitment Industry following a successful career in HR and Sales. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (Marketing, Management, Organisational Behaviour & Commercial Law).
He spent 3 years in recruitment in Australia where he also ran his own business. Upon returning to New Zealand, he joined Chandler Macleod as Regional Manager for New Zealand and when Chandler Macleod split its business into a “House of Brands” John assumed the role as General Manager – Ready Workforce responsible for the Industrial business in New Zealand.
In 2008 Chandler Macleod offered him management buy out rights to Ready Workforce which he re branded to ERG Recruitment Group Ltd with his wife Fiona. John has worked for a number of International Recruitment companies during his career in the Industry and held senior management, account management and operational roles during this time.
John was a member of the NZ RCSA Council for 15 years and was Chair in 2015 – 2017. He has also been a “Pearl” Mentor and worked with several Agency owners /consultants in this capacity. In May 2014 representing the RCSA John was invited by Standards New Zealand onto the P8200 “Rainbow Tick” Committee. This committee developed a new standard for organisations to measure their commitment to gender and sexual diversity in the workplace. A world first.
As a member of the RCSA John along with his wife Fiona has pledged his time to support initiatives surrounding Youth employability. They work closely together to improve the outcomes for youth in their journey to sustainable employment.
John is a Fellow (Life) member of the RCSA.This recognises outstanding service to the Industry, a commitment to promoting the objectives and purpose of the Association and entitles John to use the designation FRCSA(Life)
John and Fiona have recently relocated to the Hawkes Bay allowing their team in Auckland to manage the business on a day to day basis. They remain actively involved in the business working on it..not in it!

Fiona and John have demonstrated their leadership from the front which has inspired a lasting culture of social awareness within their organisation to create opportunities that impact the community in a meaningful and sustainable way, working with a variety of charities to their commitment to youth employment.
2015 People’s Choice Award – Recruiter or Industry Contributor of the Year
In November 2015 John and Fiona were recognised for their contribution to the recruitment industry with a SARA award from Seek.
John has been actively involved with North Harbour Rugby Referees Association as past Chairman of the Association (2014 - 2015) and also as a referee coach and mentor. He has been an Executive Member for the North Harbour Rugby Referees Association since 2005 and held the position of Head Selector for the NHRRA responsible for referee assessment and development from 2006 - 2012.
On a personal note:
He held a top 10 ranking in North Harbour for 8 years and refereed for a total of 15 years and was awarded the Fraser King Memorial Trophy 1990 and 1991 for most promising Senior Referee in the North Harbour Association.
He was a Wellington Province Senior 2nd & 3rd Division Rugby Representative 1972, 1973, 1974.
John maintains his rugby commitments with his relocation to Hawkes Bay and is providing mentoring for young referees.
In his spare time outside of his Rugby commitments John enjoys Golf, Travelling and the pleasure that his Grandchildren give him.
