The new norm that business and recruiters alike will face is gaps in a jobseeker’s work history due to the uncertain economic conditions since the start of 2023. Our recommendation is to front foot it with a simple explanation called CAREER GAP HISTORY.

Place this front and centre AT THE TOP of your CV to ensure that you capture the reader’s attention with an explanation that tells your story.

Regardless of your circumstance it is important that you drive the narrative.

Using simple bullet points you can make a statement about why your last job ended.

Example: Made redundant or Contract/Assignment ended due to reduction in work.

DON’T FORGET TO ADD any training, certifications or volunteer work that you have completed after your last job. This highlights your transferable skills and willingness to stay engaged and active in your pursuit of future work opportunities.

Get comfortable discussing your journey - everyone is different however everyone has experienced the same anxiety when they have been out of work for a period. Applications for jobs posted on Seek, Trade me or a company website are at an all-time high. Often more than 100 – 200 and our experience has shown that 90% of the CVs have gaps ... CVs that have an explanation have allowed ERG to respond more quickly and with greater clarity of how we can help.

Don't be afraid to talk to our team if you want to apply for a job and are unsure what to put. We need to know so we can best support you into the right job.
